Thanks, Babu. Use the Vista DVD to boot and format the hard drive. What's so special about Media Direct? I keep seeing it being referenced and there are buttons on my laptop for MD. Does it do anything special? Hi metroplex, Thanks for your reply. Now I've a problem with the touch sensitive button for volume control.
Earlier, it used to show on the display the volume level. But now after re-formatting and even after installing Media Direct, the volume level display is not appearing on the screen. Am I missing some drivers for that to happen? Kindly help.. Ok I have 2 new Studio s on the way to be delivered sometime in January. I have actually read through all pages in this thread as I want to reformat my new laptops and I have a couple of questions.
The first involves the AHCI driver issue. You'll select a language, connect to a Wi-Fi network, and perform other setup tasks to complete the Windows 10 reinstallation. Method 2. Restart your computer. Open the "Advanced Boot Options" menu. As soon as you see the Dell logo appear, begin repeatedly tapping the F8 key. If you time this correctly, you should see the Advanced Boot Options screen appear. Select a language.
Click the "Language" drop-down box, click the language that you want to use, and then click Next. Log into your account. Select your account, then enter your password. Your account must have administrator privileges for you to continue. Click Dell Factory Image Restore when prompted. This will open the Factory Image Restore window.
Click Next. It's in the bottom-right corner of the window. Confirm your decision to format the computer. Check the "Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition" box if it isn't already checked.
Doing so will prompt your Dell's hard drive to begin erasing and reformatting. This process can take several hours, so just make sure that your Dell is plugged into an electrical outlet.
Click Finish when prompted. Doing so will restart your computer. Your Dell should now be back to its original, clean settings. Method 3. Make sure that you have a Windows installation disc. With a few tweaks to your computer's settings, you can prompt your computer to boot from the CD rather than from the main hard drive, allowing you to erase the hard drive and then reformat it.
Insert your Windows disc into the computer. Place the disc logo side-up in the DVD tray, then close the tray.
Wait for the "Press any key to boot from disc" prompt to appear. On most Dell computers, inserting a Windows installation disc will prompt the computer to select the disc as the boot option. If your computer completely restarts without this prompt appearing, you'll need to change your BIOS boot order. Press any key on your keyboard.
Doing so will start the disc booting sequence. Click the "Language" drop-down box, click the language that you want to use, and click Next in the bottom-right corner of the window. You will need to double-click the Computer Management link. Click the Disk Management link to access the disk management. After you click OK, you will be presented with the options file system and size.
You can get started by selecting Reset this PC. You can remove everything by selecting this option. You can remove my files from this computer by selecting Just remove my files… The reset process can be completed by following the instructions on screen.
You can access the Power button in the lower right corner of the screen from the login screen. You will be taken to the troubleshooting option screen after the computer restarts. Your computer now has the option to be reset or refreshed. Next, click the Next button. You can run Windows Login Recovery on the computer accessible from the download link.
You will see a wizard for resetting your password after you put the disk in the locked computer. ISO and burn it onto a disk. Place it in on bootup and attempt to start the disk up.
