Can ps games be saved on ps2 memory cards

I keep trying to save but they say they can't see the memory card and i keep having to go back to the beggining can anybody help me!?!?!

Well my sister tryed to save on her memory card and it saved Top Voted Answer. I've tried saving it on my PS2 memory card, and it didn't work. You shouldn't have to restart the game every time you play. It's not fair.
